Steps (about 2 minutes)
- Turn on Developer mode. In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings → Security and login → Developer mode and switch it on (one time). Custom connectors need a Plus, Pro or Business plan.
- Add a custom MCP server. Open the apps/connectors settings and choose Add custom MCP server. Name: AskMyEV. URL:
https://askmyev.com/mcp. Authentication: OAuth. Click Create. - Sign in with Tesla. On the AskMyEV screen tap Continue with Tesla, sign in on Tesla's own page (auth.tesla.com) and tap Allow. AskMyEV never sees your Tesla password.
- Choose a plan or skip. Checkout opens: start the 30-day free trial (card required, $0 today) or skip it and use the free one-time health check.
- Ask your first question. In a new chat, enable AskMyEV from the + menu and ask “What's my range right now?”
You're at 64% with about 207 miles of rated range. The car is plugged in at home and charging at 32 A (about 7.6 kW), set to stop at 80%.
At this rate it reaches 80% around 9:40 PM.
First questions to ask
- “How's my Tesla's battery health?”
- “Is my car ready for a 200-mile trip tomorrow?”
- “Any Tesla alerts this week? What do they mean?”
- “What did charging cost me last month?”
More in the AskMyEV prompt library.
Is it safe?
- Read-only. AskMyEV asks Tesla only for data scopes. It cannot unlock, start, drive, climate-control or change settings, because vehicle-command access is never requested.
- Official login. It uses Tesla's Fleet API, the approved route for third-party apps; you sign in on Tesla's page.
- No location history. Your car's location is used live to answer a question but never stored.
- Battery-friendly. It doesn't wake a sleeping car unless you ask, with a hard cap of 3 wake-ups per day.
- Revocable. Remove the connector in your AI app, and revoke AskMyEV in your Tesla account's third-party apps.
Troubleshooting
- No “Add custom MCP server” option: Developer mode is off, or you're on a plan without custom connectors. The ChatGPT mobile app doesn't support adding custom connectors yet, so set it up on the web; afterwards it works in your chats.
- “Can't reach my car”: the car may be asleep or offline. Ask again in a minute, or ask ChatGPT to use the last saved data.
- Wrong car: ask “List my vehicles” and name the one you mean.
Frequently asked questions
Does ChatGPT have a Tesla integration?
Not built in. You connect your Tesla through a third-party app (MCP connector) such as AskMyEV, which uses Tesla's official Fleet API and your Tesla login.
Which ChatGPT plans support it?
Custom connectors (developer mode) are available on ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Business on the web. Check OpenAI's help center for the current list.
Can ChatGPT unlock or drive my Tesla through AskMyEV?
No. AskMyEV is read-only. It never requests vehicle-command access, so it cannot unlock, start, drive or change settings.
How much does it cost?
A free one-time health check needs no card. Paid plans start with a 30-day free trial: $4.99/mo or $39/yr.
Ask your own Tesla, in the AI you already use
Read-only, set up in about two minutes. Free one-time health check with no card, or a 30-day free trial. Then $4.99/mo or $39/yr.
