Steps (about 2 minutes)
- Open Connectors. On claude.ai, open Settings → Connectors.
- Add a custom connector. Click Add custom connector. Name: AskMyEV. URL:
https://askmyev.com/mcp. Click Add, then Connect. - Sign in with Tesla. On the AskMyEV screen tap Continue with Tesla, sign in on Tesla's own page (auth.tesla.com) and tap Allow. AskMyEV never sees your Tesla password.
- Choose a plan or skip. Checkout opens: start the 30-day free trial (card required, $0 today) or skip it and use the free one-time health check.
- Turn it on in a chat. In a chat, enable AskMyEV in the tools menu and ask “Did I leave my car charging?”
Your full-charge range estimate is 324 mi, down from 333 mi at delivery 18 months ago. That's about 2.7%, normal for this age and mileage.
Most of the drop happened in the first year; it's been nearly flat since spring.
First questions to ask
- “How's my Tesla's battery health?”
- “Is my car ready for a 200-mile trip tomorrow?”
- “Any Tesla alerts this week? What do they mean?”
- “What did charging cost me last month?”
More in the AskMyEV prompt library.
Is it safe?
- Read-only. AskMyEV asks Tesla only for data scopes. It cannot unlock, start, drive, climate-control or change settings, because vehicle-command access is never requested.
- Official login. It uses Tesla's Fleet API, the approved route for third-party apps; you sign in on Tesla's page.
- No location history. Your car's location is used live to answer a question but never stored.
- Battery-friendly. It doesn't wake a sleeping car unless you ask, with a hard cap of 3 wake-ups per day.
- Revocable. Remove the connector in your AI app, and revoke AskMyEV in your Tesla account's third-party apps.
Troubleshooting
- Free plan: Claude Free allows one custom connector. Remove another one if you hit the limit.
- Tools not used: make sure AskMyEV is toggled on in the chat's tools menu, then ask about “my Tesla” or “my car”.
- Team/Enterprise: an owner may need to allow custom connectors for your organization.
Frequently asked questions
Can Claude access my Tesla?
Yes, through a custom connector (remote MCP server) such as AskMyEV. You authorize read-only access with your Tesla login; Claude can then call AskMyEV's tools to answer questions about your car.
Does it work on Claude's free plan?
Yes. Claude Free allows one custom connector, which can be AskMyEV.
Does Claude see my Tesla password?
No. You sign in on Tesla's own page. Neither Claude nor AskMyEV sees your password.
Does it work in the Claude mobile app?
Connectors you add on claude.ai are available in your account; set it up on the web first.
